Buchanan car show Sunday
Michiana Cruisers’ eighth annual car, truck and motorcycle show at Buchanan’s McCoy Creek Centennial Park July 15 benefits Berrien County Council for Children.
Its Children’s Assessment Center, or CAC, is a program serving children ages 2 to 18.
The program’s purpose is to facilitate and coordinate the work of organizations responsible for investigating child sexual abuse.
The council seeks to reduce the trauma of these investigations and to compassionately meet the needs of sexually abused children.
Gary Shindeldecker of St. Joseph said about 50 families from all over Michigan and Indiana belong to the car club, which began in Niles and used to help with Riverfest. In fact, it still sponsors its own Wednesday night cruise-ins.
Shindeldecker said the event usually attracts 150 to 200 vintage vehicles, depending on the weather and raises at least $2,000.
Besides the $10 registration fee from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, other money is made by “jailing” people for five minutes, which costs $2; $1 to be freed before the sentence elapses. Spectators attend for free.
Dash plaques are awarded to the first 100 vehicles. The show runs until 2:30 p.m.
There is a $100 prize and trophy for best club participation, door prizes, tool raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
