Vikes defeat Comets

NILES - The Niles varsity baseball team was supposed to host the Viking Invitational Saturday afternoon. However, rain spoiled the plans and only one game was played.
Niles and Coloma met at noon, where the Vikings grabbed a 3-2 win over the Comets.
Josh Beers took the win on the mound for Niles, with Joe Tucker suffering the loss for Coloma. Beers allowed four hits and two walks.
Rick Storm was the lone top hitter for the Vikings with two singles.
The other two games that were scheduled for the day were Coloama and Muskegon Reeths-Puffer and Niles and Muskegon Reeths-Puffer.
Niles will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Dowagiac for a Big 16 West Division doubleheader set to begin at 4 p.m.
On Thursday, the Vikes will travel to Berrien Springs for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Niles will start the week long Penn Klassic tournament.
In district pairings, Niles drew a first round bye and will play St. Joseph on Saturday, June 3 at noon.
The winner will advance to the finals, which are being played at 2 p.m. on June 3.
Lakeshore and South Haven will meet at 5 p.m. on May 30, with the winner advancing to play Coloma on June 3 at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the finals.
