Brandywine JV softball team wins own tourney

NILES - The Brandywine junior varsity softball team hosted its own Brandywine JV Tournament this past weekend. The Bobcats claimed the title after defeating Niles 5-4 and Edwardsburg 7-0.
Against the Vikes, Angela Newman (3-1) took the win in the circle, throwing six strikeouts and allowing three walks.
Demi Schrader suffered the loss for Niles.
Brandywine scored one run in the first inning, one in the fifth and three in the sixth, while the Vikes scored one in the fourth inning and three in the fifth.
At the plate, Rachel Batman had a double and a home run for Brandywine. Niles was led by Denise Echevarria with three singles, while Alyssa Pingel and Dorea Britton added two singles each.
Niles went on to beat Edwardsburg 3-0.
Against The Eddies, Jenna Harris (7-4) grabbed the win on the mound, throwing three strikeouts and allowing just one walk.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the third inning and three in the seventh.
Top hitters were Cassie Marazita with a double and one RBI, Leah Kachur had three singles and Newman had a single, double and three RBIs for the Lady Bobcats.
