LANSING - State Rep. Neal Nitz has filed his paperwork to formally begin his re-election bid representing the residents of the 78th District in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Nitz's work ethic earned the praise of his legislative colleagues.
Speaker DeRoche also spoke of the job Nitz has done shepherding alternative energy legislation through the House.
Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks, said Nitz has been diligent in his service to the district: “I appreciate the opportunity to work with Neal in the legislature on behalf of Southwest Michigan,” said Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks. “He takes a common sense approach to issues in Lansing and works hard to serve the residents of our area.”
Nitz is a third generation farmer and former Berrien County Commissioner.
He currently serves as chairman of the House Agriculture Committee and as a member of the Transportation, Local Government and Urban Policy, and Conservation, Forestry, and Outdoor Recreation Committees.
Nitz, who was first elected to the House in 2002, said he has had a productive second term, leading the effort on a comprehensive renewable fuels package, offering assistance to the local tool and die industry, fighting for environmental protection on issues like water diversion, promoting strong public education by voting for an increase in per-pupil funding and supporting economic development initiatives to help struggling families and businesses.
The Primary election for the State House seat is August 8, 2006 with the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
