Scansen, Brandstatter head to nationals

NILES - Six Niles wrestlers participated in the Border Wars "Monster Medal" Wrestling Tournament held on Saturday in Mason.
Competing in the 7-8 age group, novice Matt Bricker went 0-2 for the day.
In the 13-14 age group, Nate Allison compiled a 2-2 record, while Marcus Bricker, competing in the 15-18 age group, ended his day with a 1-2 record.
Also wrestling in the 15-18 age group, veteran Jake Glueckert (125) faced 17 experienced opponents in his weight class. He completed his day with a 3-2 record.
Qualifying for the Border Wars National Tournament to be held this November are Todd Scansen (145) and Ben Brandstatter (171). Both competed in the 15-18 age group.
Scansen won his three matches by a score of 2-1, 6-2, and 4-2 to take home the Gold Medal for first place.
Brandstatter had a bye in his first round, then defeated 2 opponents with a score of 7-0, and 14-4 to claim his Monster Gold Medal for first place.
