James Allen Checkley, 62, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Marion VA Medical Center, Marion, IN. He was born on February 10, 1962 in South Bend, IN to Robert William Checkley and Karole Checkley.
James was a proud Army Veteran and led a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep sense of community. After serving his country with honor, James transitioned to civilian life, bringing his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving skills to his role as a repair technician at Cannon. His work was not just a job but a reflection of his commitment to excellence and his enjoyment of tackling complex challenges.
Beyond his professional endeavors, James was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 19 in Elkhart, Indiana. His involvement with the DAV was a testament to his unwavering support for fellow veterans and their families.
Per James request, there will be no services and cremation is planned.
Survivors include his son, James Checkley; brothers, Mike (Beth) Checkley, Stephen Checkley, Tim Gray and Brian Gray.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Checkley; mother, Karole Brown; brother, Brian Checkley, and sister, Debbie Engler.
Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, IN.
