EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg School Board swore in new and returning members during its first regular meeting of 2025.

Taking the Oath of Office was new board member Nick Yoder as well as returning members Tammy Niemier and Anthony Overmyer. They will each serve a six year term.

The board also elected officers, choosing Overmyer as Board President and trustee Natalie Frentz as Vice President. Also appointed was Tammy Niemier as Secretary and Justin Kimbrell as Treasurer.

Continuing the business of the year, the board adopted an Organizational Resolution, officially recognizing Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Cheryl Steele in the continuing role of Recording Secretary and making official the financial institutions used as depositories, as well as those authorized to sign checks and conduct financial business on behalf of the district.

Superintendent Dr. Courtney Szucs recognized the work of the board during the last year, including the passing of the district bond and the adoption of a new strategic plan and new safety plan.

The recognition was a small part of the celebration of School Board Recognition Month, which took up the bulk of the meeting. The board was honored with multiple student led presentations from several grades, as well as the Edwardsburg Parent Teacher Conference. They also received several tokens of appreciation, including student-made “school board survival kits”.

Szucs also recognized December’s Support Staff Team Member of the Month, Zach Wenrick, a mechanic in the transportation department. Szucs read comments from Wenrick’s nominator, which noted him as “irreplaceable”. Along with the recognition, he received a gift basket from Culver’s Restaurant, who sponsors the award.
