BRIDGMAN - The Brandywine varsity volleyball team wasn't ready to end its season Thursday evening.
The Bobcats defeated Berrien Springs, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23, in the first round of the Class C Districts, which are being held at Bridgman High School.
Brandywine will now face Buchanan in the semifinals on Saturday, which begin at noon. The Bucks drew a first round bye.
The Bobcats have made a lot of progress since the beginning of the season and, as Whitney said, a few girls have stepped up and now know their roles.
One player is sophomore Katie Smallwood, who had eight kills, seven digs and two blocks on the night.
The Bobcats' other setter, freshman Missy Cooper, has been battling an illness and wasn't able to play as much as she usually does. Cooper ended the night with seven assists, while Low had 29.
Kendra Zache sent 12 kills over the net and had two aces and eight digs. Kelli Zache had eight kills and Katie Martyniuk had 12 kills.
Class B
at Paw Paw
Dowagiac will head to Paw Paw on Saturday, March 4 to take part in the Class B District Volleyball Tournament.
Host Paw Paw and defending district champion Sturgis will get the tournament started at 9 a.m.
Dowagiac will face Three Rivers in the second match of the day, which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
The winner of the Three Rivers-Dowagiac match advances to the finals.
The winner of the Paw Paw-Sturgis match will advance to face Vicksburg at noon. Vicksburg received a first round bye.
The championship match is slated for 1:30 p.m.
Class B
at Stevensville
Defending district champion St. Joseph and Coloma will open up play at Lakeshore High School in the Class B District Tournament at 10 a.m.
Niles and host Lakeshore are scheduled to play the second match at 11:30 with the winner advancing to the finals.
Edwardsburg will face the winner of the St. Joseph-Coloma match at 1 p.m.
The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Class C
at Bridgman
Defending champion Watervliet defeated River Valley on Thursday night in the opening game of the Class C District Tournament at Bridgman High School.
Brandywine defeated Berrien Springs on Thursday night, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23. (see related story below)
Host Bridgman will face Watervliet on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m.
Buchanan will take on Brandywine on Saturday at noon.
The championship match is slated for 2 p.m.
Class C
at White Pigeon
Host White Pigeon will meet Constantine on Thursday, March 2 at 5 p.m.
Schoolcraft defeated Cassopolis in a five-game thriller Thursday night, 25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26 and 15-10.
Marcellus will face the winner of the White Pigeon-Constantine match on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m.
Centreville will get the winner of the Cassopolis-Schoolcraft match on March 4 at 11:30 a.m.
The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
