March 4, 1948 – October 14, 2024
Lawanda May, 76, of Cassopolis, died peacefully in her residence Monday October 14, 2024.
Her life began March 4, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, the second of two children born to Delorse Gigger and Charles Williams.
Lawanda worked for the State of Michigan for many years in various departments, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed her music, especially singing and listening to gospel and R and B. Her favorite channel was BET – shows like “Martin” – and Court TV – shows like “Divorce Court” and “Paternity Court” and could be found watching her favorites for hours. She felt comfortable in her kitchen and enjoyed cooking and eating. She had fun playing the lottery – with some success – and going for a night out at the casino. Most of all she loved family, especially being with her great-grandchildren and going to their high school games. Lawanda will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Yolanda Gigger of Cassopolis; one son, Lorenzo M. (Crystal) Hart of Detroit; one step-son, Travis May of Detroit; nine grandchildren, Jermaine (Assata) Hart, Markeisha Shauntae Stovall, Lorenzo Mark Stovall, Anthony Young, Verneil (Tiara Suttles) Gigger Stephenson, Zacharia Gigger, Jerod Gigger, Kenneth (Amanda) Carson, Love Majesti’ Hart; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, Kaelani Hart; a special nephew, Emir Gigger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth May; her brother, Leroy Gigger; and her grandmother, Alice Gigger.
Lawanda was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Kenneth May, in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
