DOWAGIAC — The Decorate Dowagiac Committee announced Thursday that a Star Sponsor has come forward with a large donation. 

“We are feeling like little kids on Christmas morning,” stated Melissa Gunn, Decorate Dowagiac Committee Chairwoman. “We’re thrilled to have the financial commitment of Comcast as our Star Sponsor. Comcast is donating $2500, providing the funds for the City of Dowagiac’s new Christmas tree topper.”

Upon seeing the first announcement regarding the holiday lights project, Comcast immediately answered the call to sponsor.  

Comcast has more than 2,300 miles of network infrastructure across southwest Michigan and has invested more than $880 million in its Michigan network over the last three years. In its southwest Michigan footprint, Comcast provides residents with services including Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile, Xfinity X1, offering live TV, sports, music, and streaming apps, and Xfinity Home, the company’s home security and automation solution. Businesses have access to Comcast Business’ full suite of services, including Internet speeds up to 100 Gbps, Ethernet, Advanced Voice, Comcast Business Mobile and a variety of cloud services and other advanced services.  

Additionally, Comcast helps residents get online through the company’s Internet Essentials program, an affordable home Internet service available to eligible low-income households. The program has helped 1.26 million Michigan residents connect to the Internet at home since its launch in 2011. 

“Comcast is proud to be part of the community fabric in Dowagiac and bring joy to the upcoming holiday season,” said Philip Goodrich, Comcast’s Community Relations Manager in Southwest Michigan. “We’d like to thank the Decorate Dowagiac Committee, Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, and City of Dowagiac for its tremendous partnership.”

Decorate Dowagiac has a mission of building upon and enhancing the City of Dowagiac’s traditional holiday streetscape decorations. Gunn stated that the first goal is to embellish the City Christmas Tree that is set up in Beckwith Park annually. The committee kicked off its fundraising drive last month. Because the non-profit Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce will be facilitating the collection of donations for Decorate Dowagiac, all contributions are tax deductible and all funds received will be used for the purchase of holiday décor and supplies for streetscapes.

Checks should be made payable to Decorate Dowagiac, and mailed to the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, 200 Depot Drive, Dowagiac, MI 49047.
