Laura Skillings, 61, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on September 5, 2024, after a month long illness.

The youngest of three, Laura was known for her direct yet playful spirit, and her kind and generous support of others.

Laura attended Waverly High School, Lansing Community College, obtained a history degree from Western Michigan University, and a master’s degree in education from Colorado State University.

Laura became a community college counselor, working with non-traditional students in: Colby, Kansas; Page, Arizona; Fort Collins, Colorado; and, Niles, Michigan. She guided students with wisdom, practicality, and humor, helping them navigate the challenges of academia and personal strife.

Laura enjoyed friends, University of Michigan football, scrapbooking, reading, and traveling. Her passion in life were her rescue cats—Kitty, Kit & Kat, and Luna.

Laura will be deeply missed by her sister Carol Skillings, brother-in-law Thomas Stanton, brother Jerry Skillings, sister-in-law Abby Spector, and niece Anna Skillings, as well as cousins, devoted friends and numerous acquaintances.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy Matz Skillings and Walter Skillings.
