CORRECTION – An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the recall against Payne, McCombs and McKee was due to “Micromanaging the district and not putting the interests of students first,” which was simply the opinion of John Jarpe, who submitted the recall language, and not the reasoning listed in the official recall language. Leader Publications apologizes for this error and is happy to correct it.

NILES CHARTER TOWNSHIP — The Brandywine Community Schools Board of Education is looking to fill a vacant position after Thomas Payne’s resignation, the second school board departure this year.

The district is now accepting applications for the remainder of Payne’s term. Whoever is appointed will serve the remainder of his term through 2026.

According to Superintendent Travis Walker, Payne resigned Friday after serving on the board since January 2023. Recall language was filed against him and two other board members this year – Elaine McKee and Micheanne McCombs – which failed in June because the wording was not clear.

Payne is the second school board member to resign this year following Angela Seastrom, who resigned in June after moving out of the district.

Those interested in applying to fill the vacancy can submit a letter of interest and resume to Superintendent Travis Walker at twalker@brandywinebobcats.org. Applications should be returned by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
