Niles downs Sturgis in 62-0 homecoming rout

NILES — The Niles football team spread the love around in Friday’s homecoming game against visiting Sturgis.

Six Vikings found the end zone in a 62-0 victory. Niles led 55-0 at halftime and rushed for 482 yards in the game on just 32 carries.

Peyton Gordon tallied six carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns and Elijah Norris had five carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Vaughn Asmus (five for 58 yards), Kadarree Guy (3 for 35), Dillon Pearman (3 for 29) and Alex Anderson (1 for 22) found the end zone. Paul Hess had two carries for 56 yards and Sam Rucker had two for 35.

The Vikings defense held Sturgis to 36 total yards of offense, including -28 rushing yards. Ward Cheney led Niles with 5 tackles and Sam Rucker added one sack. 

Niles (4-1) travels to Vicksburg next week for its first road game since Aug. 30. The game will start at 7 p.m.
