Selessie Moore “Ma” Winters, died peacefully August 31, 2024 in the comfort of her family’s presence.

Her life began January 15, 1929 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the third of sixteen children born to Irene and Sylvester Davis. She was raised in Kennett, Missouri and attended elementary and high school in Hayti, Missouri.

She married Willie D. Moore in 1946 and became the mother of thirteen children. In 1952 she moved to Eau Claire, Michigan where she met Fred Brown and became the mother of four more children. After moves to Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Vandalia, Michigan she met and married the Reverend Willie Winters and became the stepmother of eight children.

Ma became a member of First Baptist Church in Cassopolis under the leadership of Pastor Steve Weddington. She later joined Vandalia Church of God under Pastor Andrew Thompson.

In January, 2024 she lived with her sister in Chicago for a while until her heath began to fail her. While there she attended Fellowship in Christ Church where her sister Josephine Burns is Senior Pastor. She later moved to be with her son, Michael and Daleesha, until she passed.

Ma will be greatly missed by family and friends. She leaves to mourn her passing children, Shirley Davis, Elizabeth Jackson, Michael Anthony Moore, Josephine Flowers, Alberta Moore, Arlene Moore, Nathaniel Moore, Lorrie Ann Moore, Sylvester Moore, Cameron Moore, Lovia Moore, Desiree Ware, Sharon Williams, Willie Winters Jr., Donald Winters, Emmanuel Winters, Wilhelmina Deborah Brooks, Michael Winters; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; two sisters, Pastor Josephine Burns, Betty (Alfred) Bound, three brothers, Simon (Juanita) Davis, Leroy (Mary Ann) Davis, James Davis; nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, and friends.

In addition to her two husbands, Willie D. Moore, the Reverend Willie Winters, and friend Fred Brown; she was preceded in death by eight children, Freddie Lee Davis, Ronnie D. Moore, Willa Mae Moore, Larry Joe Moore, Vern Lee Moore, Michael Anthony Moore, Carl Winters, Bill Winters; her friend, Fred Brown; three sisters, Della, Marjorie, Juanita; five brothers, Claude Davis, Joseph Davis, Junior Davis, Steven Davis, Harold Davis; one niece, Ruby Jean; and one nephew, Joseph Davis, Jr.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon in Wagner Family Funerals Connelly Chapel, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.

Ma will be laid to rest beside her husband, the Reverend Willie Winters in Bogue Street Cemetery in Vandalia, Michigan.
