Buchanan football falls to White Pigeon 16-9

BUCHANAN — The Buchanan football team fell to visiting White Pigeon Friday night in a slugfest.
Trailing 8-0 in the second quarter, quarterback Jake Franklin connected with Tyler Baker on a 38-yard touchdown grab to make it an 8-6 game at halftime. A White Pigeon touchdown run and a 33-yard Mason Frontczak field goal in the third quarter rounded out scoring. The Chiefs outgained the Bucks 273-156 in total yards and 273-30 on the ground.
Franklin completed 10 of 19 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown pass. Leland Payne had 29 rushing yards on seven carries and Baker had 3 catches for 56 yards while Tristan Nesbitt added 3 catches for 41 yards.
On defense, Jameson Pleasant led the team with 12 tackles and Brody Reed added 11 tackles and an interception while Baker, Ryan Hickok and Tyler Pelletier tallied 10 tackles apiece.
Buchanan (1-1) hosts Ottawa Lake Whiteford at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
