CASSOPOLIS — A Cassopolis antique and vintage store will soon be closing its doors.

Past, Presents and More, 149 S. Broadway St., Cassopolis, announced on Facebook that it will be closing its doors next month after opening in September 2021. Owner Theresa Slaski sells her own vintage finds, home décor and furniture, as well as items from various vendors at the storefront, which is open from 10 to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

“Business has slowed down quite a bit,” Slaski said. “We were doing pretty well when we first opened and summer is when we get most of our business but it just hasn’t happened to us this year. I’m close to retirement age and I’m ready for a new chapter.”

Items in the store will be 25 percent off Thursday, Aug. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 1 and 50 percent off Thursday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 8. Slaski said she plans to close the store at the end of September.

A longtime collector of antiques, Slaski had been selling her finds at area antique malls and other places for several years. When the opportunity came for her to rent a space in downtown Cassopolis, she decided to take the plunge and open her own business.

“I was excited because I grew up here,” she said. “I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve always been into antiques – we followed in my mother’s footsteps.”

While she looks forward to what will come next, Slaski will also look back fondly on her years owning a treasure trove for community members to discover.

“A lot of antiques that I’ve found and get excited about, I put them in the store and I get to see somebody else get excited about finding them. So I get to relive it all over again,” she said. “It’s always fun being on the hunt and finding good deals and finding things for the store. I have no regrets.”
