Victim of fatal Silver Creek Township crash identified

CASS COUNTY — Amanda Kay Huffman, 33, of Niles, has been identified as the victim of the fatal crash that occurred Thursday in Silver Creek Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that at approximately 11:57 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Garrett Road north of M-62 Hwy. in Silver Creek Township.
The initial investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Garrett Road. The vehicle crossed the centerline and left the roadway to the east. The vehicle went down a ditch and rolled before coming to a rest in a field. Huffman was initially trapped under the vehicle. She was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to the Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The passenger of the vehicle, George Lawrence Tovey III, was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital and refused medical treatment at the hospital. Seat belts were not worn at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Assisting agencies on scene were Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Dowagiac Police Department, Indian Lake Fire Department, Indian Lake First Responders, and SMCAS Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation.
