BUCHANAN — The City of Buchanan will once again host the World’s Biggest Olympic Watch Party for Buchanan native and Olympic Medalist Hannah Roberts.

Mayor Sean Denison announced that the watch party will take place at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 at the Buchanan Common with a rebroadcast at 7:00 p.m. at the same location. Hannah will compete for the Gold Medal in the Paris Olympics in the BMX Freestyle Event. 

Buchanan currently boasts the title of “World’s Biggest Olympic Watch Party in History” that was earned in 2021 when Hannah competed and brought home the Silver Medal from the Tokyo Olympics. Nearly 3,000 people watched from Buchanan as Roberts became the first woman to land a 360-degree tail whip in competition alongside her parents and family who were unable to attend the event in person due to COVID constraints. 

The Paris 2024 Watch Party will feature a large Jumbotron TV on the Buchanan Common which will air the live competition from Paris. The event is free to the public and all are invited to come out and cheer Roberts on. The Common is an outdoor venue and spectators are asked to bring their own chairs and be prepared for any weather conditions.

“Hannah competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and won the Silver Medal in front of what NBC Sports has called the largest Watch Party in Olympic history with estimated attendance between two to three thousand,” Denison said of the event. “All of Buchanan was out that night and we came together as one. It was truly one of the most memorable events in Buchanan history.  Let’s do it again and cheer Hannah on for another successful Olympic competition, this time in Paris.
