SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP — A Dowagiac man and Dowagiac woman were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in Silver Creek Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Topash Street and Townhall Road at approximately 6:24 a.m. The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Jody Carl Prak, 64, of Dowagiac, stopped at the stop sign on Topash Street but then proceeded into the path of Robert Levi McCarthy, 54, of Dowagiac. The roads were wet, and McCarthy could not avoid the collision and hit Prak, sending the vehicle into a bean field.
Prak was transported to Lakeland St. Joseph Hospital for injuries sustained in the traffic crash. McCarthy sustained injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were worn. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting agencies on scene were Pokagon Tribal Police, Dowagiac Fire Department and SMCAS Ambulance.
