SMC volleyball, women’s cross country named MCCAA All-Academic

DOWAGIAC — The Southwestern Michigan College volleyball team and women’s cross country teams were two of the 78 Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s All-Academic teams.

The Roadrunner volleyball team had the seventh-best team GPA at 3.47. The cross country team was nine spots lower with a team GPA of 3.37.

Ten members of the volleyball team earned MCCAA Academic All-Conference. They were Bianca Hobson, Nikki Nate, Elizabeth Stockdale, Amanda Jones, Emilee Demski, Juliette Schroeder, Carlie Ritchie, Anna Johnson, Emma Beckman and Abi Marquis.

Also earning Academic All-MCCAA were Nikki Nate, Elizabeth Stockdale, Amanda Jones, Emilee Demski, Juliette Schroeder, Carlie Ritchie, Anna Johnson, Emma Beckman and Abi Marquis.

The cross country team had eight runners earn academic all-conference. They were Sandra Barajas, Madison Siergiej, Emily Tuinstra, Taylor Meier, Morgan Pierzcynski, Riley Sinkler, Kierstyn Thompson and Tori Yates.

Also earning Academic All-MCCAA were Madison Siergiej, Emily Tuinstra, Taylor Meier, Morgan Pierzcynski, Riley Sinkler, Kierstyn Thompson and Tori Yates.

The Roadrunners’ women’s basketball team was well-represented on the MCCAA Academic All-Conference team, with seven players earning the honor. They were Amara Palmer, Tori Eldrige, Arianna Lemons, Khashya McCoy, Cameron Thomas, Macey Laubach and Charlee Balcom.

Not to be outdone, but the SMC wrestling team also earned National Junior College Athletic Association Scholar All-America this season, with 10 grapplers receiving the honor.

They were Vince Arebalo, Nathan Andrina, Colby Klinger, Trevor Winkel, Niko Martinez, Jared Checkley, Gabe Livingston, Hector Garcia, Luke Guerra and Colin Sabo.

Also earning Academic All-MCCAA were Andrina, Klinger, Winkel, Martinez, Checkley, Livingston and Garcia.

The men’s basketball team had Zack Stokes and Rodell Davis Jr. earn academic all-conference, while the men’s cross country team had four runners earn the honor.

They were Brandon Persons, Correll Tyson, John Sanderson and Micah Ordway.

Davis Jr., Tyson, Sanderson and Ordway were also Academic All-MCCAA.
