David Wayne Latislaw, born on May 8, 1954, in Dowagiac, Michigan, to Billie Jean Lenz and George Latislaw, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. He was a 1973 graduate of Niles High School and married Carmel Davis Fey in 1974.
Together they had four children: Matthew, Jonathan, Philip, and Anna.
Stationed in Germany, David proudly served in the army as a chaplain’s assistant before being honorably discharged. He had a natural talent for making others laugh and was known for his kind and loving nature to all who crossed his path.
After retiring, he found his love of fine art and started a fine art and antiques business with his husband selling rare and vintage pieces. Dave’s love of art continued in areas of music and dance.
For the last 15 years, David and Jim, resided in Newnan, Georgia where they cultivated many new friendships. They enjoyed hosting dinner parties with family and friends as they ate, drank, laughed and danced the night away.
David’s greatest treasure was his faith. Understanding the impact of Alzheimer’s, he rededicated his life to Jesus and began attending Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia.
David is survived by his husband, Jim Gentry; his mother, Billie Jean Lenz; his children, Matthew, Philip, and Anna; and his grandchildren, Arielle, Aryana, and Ariah Latislaw. He is also survived by his siblings, Steve (Margie) Latislaw, Debbie (Dan) Finch, and Diana (Mark) Graves, along with a host of extended family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Latislaw; father, George Latislaw; and brothers, Kevin and Barry Latislaw.
David’s children would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jim Gentry for his unwavering love and dedication in caring for David during his final days. Jim’s support and love will forever be cherished in their hearts.
David’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy of love, laughter, and faith will be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51 Niles, MI 49120 on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10am. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of David Latislaw to The Alzheimer’s Foundation at Alzfdn.org
