ST. JOSEPH — Longtime rival Lakeshore and Dowagiac squared off in the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 2 Baseball Tournament Tuesday.

The Lancers blanked the Chieftains 7-0 to advance to Saturday’s semifinals against the arch rival Bears. Niles will take on Berrien Springs in the second semifinal at 12:30 p.m.

Brad Harris started for Lakeshore on the hill and picked up the victory as he went five innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit with six strikeouts. Alex Knight and Cohen Hurdle both worked one inning and combined for three strikeouts.

The Lancers (20-12) finished with five hits off a pair of Chieftain pitchers.

Ryley Danapilis had a double for Lakeshore. Kieran O’Donnell drove in a pair of runs.

Kaleb Smith started and took the loss for Dowagiac. He pitched into the fifth inning, allowing six runs on four hits.

Braeden Gillesby worked the final inning and a third.

Caiden Freeman had the lone hit for the Chieftains, who finish the 2024 season at 9-19.
