BRIDGMAN — The Dowagiac softball team will head into the postseason with a full head of steam.
The Chieftains have won 18 consecutive wins following their sweep of host Bridgman Thursday.
Dowagiac, which is the host for the Division 2 District Tournament, which begins Tuesday with the Chieftains taking on long-time rival Edwardsburg, defeated the Bees 11-0 and 10-3.
Dowagiac scored its 21 runs on 22 hits. The Chieftains got solid pitching from Rebecca Guernsey and Addie Wilson, and played near-perfect defense as they committed just one error in the doubleheader.
In the opener, Guernsey tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Guernsey helped her own cause by going 4-for-4 with an RBI. Marlie Carpenter was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, while Claire Hess had two hits and two RBIs. Bree Behnke added a double and a run batted in.
Wilson tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Chieftains.
Behnke was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Emily Henry was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Carpenter drove in three runs for Dowagiac.
Dowagiac and Edwardsburg are scheduled to begin their quarterfinal contest at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday’s semifinals against Sturgis.
The other semifinal will pit Wolverine Conference rivals Three Rivers against Niles.
