FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Maddison Ward, who captured Brandywine’s first-ever girls state wrestling championship in March, is back on the mat competing in USA Wrestling events.
Ward recently won the 170-pound championship at the 2024 Central Regional at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
The Central Regional was a qualifier for the 2024 US Marine Corps Junior National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota, July 12 through July 20.
Ward defeated Ohio’s Lydia Heinrich 6-4 in the championship match. To reach the title match, the Brandywine senior-to-be, received a first round bye, and then pinned Mariah Gibson, of Ohio, via pin fall (1:16), and won by injury default in the semifinals over Isabella Adams, of Ohio.
