THREE OAKS — History was made Tuesday afternoon as visiting Brandywine swept River Valley to pick up the program’s 999th and 1,000th wins in school history.

The No. 9-ranked Bobcats (20-7) defeated the Mustangs 18-2 and 9-1 to reach the milestone.

Hall of Fame Coach David Sidenbender has led Brandywine to 466 victories, five more than Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Hurdle, who led the Bobcats to 461 wins.

The other Brandywine coaches were Don Knox (1962-63), Tom Roberts (1964), Gary Adams (1965-66), Rich Hill (1967-68) and Dave Rose (1960-70).

“As a coach, we don’t look at ‘wins’ as a total measure of a team, but it is the byproduct of doing things right and executing correctly, as well as having some pretty darn good players,” Sidenbender said. “Here at Brandywine we have been blessed with some really good players and as a result we have enjoyed our fair share of success. One thousand wins is an awesome accomplishment and I am so proud and happy for the kids here who have helped contribute to this. I feel honored and humbled by the men who came before me and am just happy I could be a part of this school, program and accomplishment.”

In the opening contest, when the Bobcats reached the milestone, tthey yscored four runs in the first and third innings, five runs in the fourth, three runs in the second and a pair in the fifth to ended the game via the mercy rule.

Ethan Adamczyk started and picked up the victory. He worked three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Xander Curtis came on in the fourth and pitched the final two innings.

The Bobcats had 18 hits to go along with those 18 runs.

Jamier Palmer was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Drew Deming had three hits, including a double, while Richard had a pair of hits and drove in five runs. Jaremiah Palmer was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

A nine-run first inning was all Brandywine needed in the nightcap to reach 1,000 victories.

Kyler Marshall was the winning pitcher as he went the distance, allowing no earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

The Bobcats had 10 hits in the second game, led by Jamier Palmer, Ryder Richard and Duane Thompson, all of whom had a pair of hits. Palmer drove in three runs for Brandywine and Richard a pair of runs.
