DOWAGIAC — Southwest Michigan area residents will soon be able to access primary care services at a new Corewell Health facility in Dowagiac.
The opening of Corewell Health Primary Care Dowagiac supports the system’s efforts to improve health, prevent chronic diseases and reduce health disparities in rural communities.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals living in rural communities have a higher risk of early death than urban residents from the following causes: heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease (CLRD) and stroke. Many of these deaths are potentially preventable and increased health risks can be reduced through the medical services offered by a primary care physician.
“Residents in Dowagiac must travel to surrounding communities to receive preventative and routine care,” said James Savoie, senior director, primary care, Corewell Health. “Having a location in Dowagiac will open the door to quality primary care services for patients who would otherwise face barriers to accessing the care they need.”
Corewell Health Primary Care Dowagiac is located at 520 Main St. The facility will open its doors to new patients on May 29 and will operate Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Community members are invited to tour the office, meet the care team and register as a patient during an open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., on June 3. The family-friendly event will include refreshments and free giveaways.
Corewell Health Primary Care Dowagiac will provide a full range of services for patients of all ages, including preventative services, chronic condition management and treatment for a variety of health concerns. Corewell Health primary care physicians are the first point of contact for most of a patient’s health care needs throughout their lifetime, including physical, mental, and social well-being.
