BUCHANAN — Rivals Niles and host Buchanan squared off Thursday with the Vikings taking an 8-2 victory over the Bucks.
In other non-league action, Dowagiac held off a late Coloma rally to split with visiting Coloma.
Buchanan at Niles
A six-run third inning was all Niles needed to knock off Buchanan, which trailed the Bucks 1-0 at the time.
Niles finished with eight hits, including doubles by Brayden Wiemuth and Carson Rachels.
Bryce Zache started and picked up the victory on the hill for the Vikings. Dean Roberts took the loss for Buchanan.
Coloma at Dowagiac
After falling to the Comets 8-0, the Chieftains rebounded to take the nightcap 12-11. The game was called after five innings due to darkness.
Dowagiac jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and scored another five runs in the fourth inning to erase an 8-6 deficit.
The Chieftains (6-15) finished with six hits, led by Kaleb Smith and Hayden Groth, who had two each.
Cole Wimberley picked up the win in relief of Smith.
