DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac soccer team wrapped up its Lakeland Conference schedule with an 8-1 win over visiting Brandywine Wednesday afternoon.
The Chieftains led 2-1 at halftime.
“We started a little slow today and didn’t play a good first half,” Dowagiac Coach Joey Pasternak said. “In the second half, the girls stepped up and played our game and we took control of the game. I was happy to see how we responded and were able to get it together and put together a good half.”
Johannah McDonald had a huge night for Dowagiac with five of its eight goals.
Alivia Ausra added two goals and Maggie Weller one.
The Chieftains outshot the Bobcats 23-3.
Dowagiac will wrap up its regular season with a trip to Edwardsburg Friday and a home match against Bangor Monday.
The Chieftains are the Division 3 District Tournament host.
Dowagiac will open tournament play against former Wolverine Conference foe Three Rivers May 22. The winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Constantine-Berrien Springs match.
Buchanan, the Lakeland Conference champion, is the top seed and received a first-round bye. The Bucks take on the winner of the South Haven-Hartford match in the semifinals.
