Roundup: Bobcats’ Babcock sets school record; Bucks, Vikings, Eddies pick up sweeps

NILES — Senior Julia Babcock made history for the Brandywine softball team Thursday as she became the first Bobcat to have 100 career stolen bases.
Babcock helped Brandywine split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Watervliet. The Bobcat won the opening game 10-6, but dropped the nightcap 9-5.
In other action, Buchanan swept host Bronson to improve to 12-1 on the season, while Niles and Edwardsburg swept Wolverine Conference doubleheaders from Sturgis and Otsego, respectively.
Brandywine Softball
The Bobcats used a four-run fifth inning in the opening game to knock off the Panthers.
Babcock was 3-for-4 a home run and a pair of RBIs, while Addison Anglin was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Kadence Brumitt added a home run, and Macy Pellow a double for the Bobcats.
Adelyn Drotoz went the distance to earn the victory.
In the nightcap, Babcock went 2-for-3 and picked up her record-setting stolen base.
Brumitt added a home run for the Bobcats, who finished with nine hits.
Anglin started and earned the victory. Brumitt came on in the third inning and finished the game in the circle.
Buchanan Softball
The offensive machine known as the Bucks scored 29 runs on 24 hits against Bronson.
In the opener, Hannah Herman and Keegan May both had two hits. May doubled for Buchanan, which also got a double from Cameron Carlson and a triple from Faith Bartley.
Hailee Kara tossed a two-hitter for the Bucks with seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Caitlin Horvath and Bartley both had three hits for Buchanan. Bartley doubled and homered, while Kara doubled and tripled.
The Bucks also got a home run from Aspen Berry and doubles from Herman and May.
Camille Lozmack scattered four hits and struck out seven to earn the victory.
Niles softball
The Vikings rolled to a pair of conference wins as they scored 35 runs on just 12 hits.
Niles also took advantage of eight Sturgis errors.
Emerson Garrard, Addeline Johnson and Annabelle Johnson all had two hits for the Vikings in the opening game.
Addeline Johnson, Haylea Wilken and Mya First all doubled. Kloe Kiggins added a double.
Wilken picked up the victory as she tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Clanton tossed a no-hitter in the nightcap with four strikeouts.
Addeline Johnson, Laila Vance, Claire Shadix and Megan Bryant all had two hits for the Vikings in the nightcap.
Edwardsburg Softball
The Eddies defeated the Bulldogs 10-0 and 6-4.
Sydney Klaer and Bryynn Young both had two hits. Klaer homered and Young doubled.
Makhaya Heflin scattered five hits, did not allow an earned run and struck out five to earn the victory.
In the second game, Kendal Hulett had three hits for Edwardsburg. Ella Zache added a double.
Victoria Pulling earned the victory as she worked into the four innings, allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. Heflin finished the game, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts.
