Light’s Barber Styling busy for 47 years

Light’s Barber Styling has been in business for almost 50 years — 47 years, to be exact.
Tom Light, who was the founder of the business, decided to build it at 204 South Lincoln Ave., Niles in October 1964. The first day was quite exhausting and overwhelming for Light and his family, but it was a great success.
While the shop was built 47 years ago, it is still successful.
Light always prayed that he would have enough support from customers once he built the business.
The shop logo, which is known as a knight that Tom found, still stands today. It has been known to watch over the business that was created. The logo has only left the shop one time with a customer on Halloween and has not left since.
Light was very consistent and dedicated to his business. He soon began to give out special haircuts for many occasions — nursing homes, graduations, weddings and “final trims.” Not only did Light give out special haircuts, but also did for the barbers and hairstylists.
Light knew that whoever needed a haircut, he was willing to give them one. It was important to him to know that the men he met or the men he knew should look their best.
In the past 47 years, styles of haircuts have changed – short to long hair, shaves and flat tops. Since then, most barbershops have changed to now allow women as well as men. Most of those men and women came from all over the area.
Now that Light is no longer living, his wife, Virginia, has kept the tradition alive being the only barbershop on the west side of Niles. Along with herself as the owner, Virginia has three barber/stylists in the shop: Jessica Linn, Tami Schadler and Amy Monroe.
