Edwardsburg splits with Plainwell

EDWARDSBURG — Windy and cold conditions could not stop host Edwardsburg and Plainwell from opening up their Wolverine Conference seasons Tuesday.
The Edwardsburg boys track team defeated the Trojans 85-52, while the girls track team was defeated by Plainwell 77-60.
Zeke Pegura swept the boys hurdle events as he ran times of 16.62 in the 110 high hurdles and 48.21 in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Noah Shepard also won multiple events as he captured the 100-meters with a time of 11.72, and was a member of the Eddies’ 400-meter relay team.
That team, which ran a time of 46.92, also consisted of Kya Bryant, Carsen Cebra and Grady Ostrander.
Bryant was a triple winner as he also was a member of the 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relay teams. The 800-meter team also consisted of Dylan Leep, Ostrander and Shepard. It ran a time of 1:40.87. The 1,600-meter team posted a time of 3:57.81. Bryant was joined on the squad by Chase Karkiewicz, Jack Bell and Leep.
Leep and Ostrander both ended the meet as double winners, as was Larson Fessenden, who won the shot put (47-7.5) and discus (136-8).
Ayden Goorhouse won the high jump at 5-8, while Noah Jacobs won the long jump with a leap of 17-7.
