Dowagiac at St. Joseph

Errors kept Dowagiac from challenging the Bears Monday afternoon as the Chieftains finished with 12 in the doubleheader.

Offense was not the issue, but scoring was. Dowagiac (0-2) had a combined 14 hits against St. Joseph.

“We weren’t very good fundamentally on defense tonight,” said veteran Dowagiac Coach Mike Behnke. “We couldn’t catch routine fly balls or field routine ground balls and made 12 errors combined in both games. Offensively we fared better, but need to be more disciplined to work the count into our favor.”

Rebecca Guernsey took the loss in the opener and Addie Wilson in the nightcap.

The Chieftains had six singles in the first game. Aubrey Busby, Bree Behnke and Claire Hess all drove in runs.

Busby and Bree Behnke were both 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the nightcap. Busby had a triple, while Charleigh Reed and Marlie Carpenter both doubled.
