BRONSON — Visiting Brandywine overwhelmed Bronson 54-31 in a non-conference girls basketball action Saturday night.

The Bobcats, who are ranked No. 1 in the AP Division 3 polls and No. 3 in the latest Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, opened up a 12-point halftime lead and then turned it up in the second half.

Brandywine (8-0) outscored the Vikings (7-2) 29-17 in the final 16 minutes to earn the victory.

Ellie Knapp and Kadence Brumitt both scored 18 points to lead the Bobcats and all scorers. Miley Young added eight points.

Brandywine did not allow Bronson, an honorable mention pick in the latest AP poll, a player to reach double figures.

Payton Springstead led the Vikings with nine points.

Brandywine is back to work Tuesday as it hosts Schoolcraft in another non-conference contest.

Cassopolis at Lawrence

The Rangers kept pace with Southwest 10 Conference girls basketball leader White Pigeon with a 44-22 win over Lawrence in a makeup game Saturday.

The Chiefs are 6-0 heading into this week, while Cassopolis is now 5-1 following its victory over the Tigers.

Lawrence (5-4, 4-4 Southwest 10) kept it close through one period, but could not keep pace with the Rangers (6-2) over the final three quarters.

The Tigers trailed Cassopolis 10-6 after the opening eight minutes, but was held to three points in the second quarter as the Rangers opened up a 25-9 halftime lead.

Cassopolis outscored Lawrence 39-13 in the second half.

Atyanna Alford led the Rangers with 14 points, while Mackenzie Boyer added 10 points and Ella Smith seven.

Carolina Mancera had 14 points to pace the Tigers.

Cassopolis was back on the court Monday night as it made up a Southwest 10 Conference game with Comstock.
