Feb. 8, 1927-Jan. 18, 2024

Donald Dean Steven, 96, of Niles, passed away peacefully at the Riverridge Manor in Niles, Michigan on Jan. 18, 2024. Born to parents J.P. and Hazel (Pilcher) Steven on February 8, 1927, in Algona, Iowa, Donald grew to be a man of wisdom, love, and impressive handiness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
After bravely serving his country in the Navy in 1945, Donald was honorably discharged and embarked on a civilian life marked by dedication and service. He became a valued member of the Bendix corporation’s general office team, where he spent 28 years contributing to the company’s success. He also worked for Hover Trucking for a short time, adding to his diverse professional experience.
Donald’s passion for the outdoors was beyond compare. In 1962, he turned this love into a flourishing nursery business, starting with Christmas Trees and eventually nurturing a wide array of plant life. This connection with nature extended into his personal hobbies; Donald was an avid collector of coins and stamps, and he loved to spend his leisure time golfing and bowling.
Donald’s devout faith guided him as a dedicated attendee of the Sumnerville Bible Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and support throughout his life.
His life was enriched by the company and love of his family. Donald was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Waggoner) Steven and the cherished father of Mark (Catherine) Steven of Niles, Donna Radford of Juanita Springs, Florida, and Terry Steven of Niles. His legacy continued through his grandchildren, Jason Steven, Sara (Mark) Grishaber, Brandon (Kristen) Steven, Stephen Radford, Heather (Alex) Montejo, Ryan Steven, and the late Alan Steven and Alan’s wife, Amanda Steven. Great-grandchildren Zack, Rylee, Cohen, Jaden, Lana, Oakley, Oliver, Simon, and Henry brought him immense joy and pride.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Mission Hills Memorial Garden in Niles. An interment followed at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
