Dowagiac tops Buchanan to snap 3-game skid

BUCHANAN — Visiting Dowagiac snapped a three-game losing streak as it completed a sweep of Buchanan in Lakeland Conference boys basketball.
The Chieftains built a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter, but had to withstand a late Bucks’ rally to pick up a 59-50 victory. Dowagiac improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in conference games.
The Chieftains led 12-11 after one quarter, and 29-26 at halftime. Dowagiac outscored Buchanan (4-8, 0-5 Lakeland) 16-7 in the third quarter to open up a 47-33 advantage heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Gianna Villalobos led four Chieftains in double figures with 15 points. Lamone Moore Jr., Isaiah Fitchett and Christian Wheaton all finished with 11 points.
Matt Trigg scored 18 points to lead the Bucks, who also got 12 points from Logan Wiggins and nine points from Liam McBeth.
Dowagiac travels to Niles Tuesday for a non-conference contest, while Buchanan will host Bronson.
