NILES — Summit Financial Wellness, a nonprofit committed to providing the skills and resources needed to achieve and maintain financial stability, has announced its upcoming Show Me the Money Day event in Niles. The free event, scheduled for Feb. 24, is designed to provide community members with access to essential financial products, resources, workshops, and an enjoyable experience for all.
The Niles-Buchanan YMCA, 905 North Front St., is the host site for this year’s event with the theme “Be Healthy With YOUR Money.” Event Highlights include:
– Free and low-cost financial products
– Community resources and information
– Financial workshops
– Prizes and giveaways
“We are thrilled to bring SMTMD to the residents of Niles and surrounding communities,” said Barbara Sistrunk, Executive Director of Summit Financial Wellness. “We are especially pleased to have the Niles-Buchanan YMCA as our host site and share their vision of a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”
“We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with our community partners to support financial wellness along with our focus on building a healthier community,” added Denise Peters, Chief Operations Officer, YMCA of Greater Michiana.
Individuals interested in attending SMTMD are encouraged to register at www.summitfw.org/register/. Registration will also be available at the event.
Show Me the Money Day events are hosted by Community Economic Development Association of Michigan members each year. The events promote opportunities to save, increase income, and build assets — like local free tax preparation services. CEDAM members host these events annually across Michigan from January to June, bolstering a statewide movement to remove economic barriers and advance financial empowerment.
In 2023, Show Me the Money Day events reached an impressive 1,907 Michigan residents. Notably, 37 percent of attendees came from households with incomes under $30,000, demonstrating the event’s accessibility to diverse socioeconomic groups. Survey results revealed that 80 percent of participants felt more hopeful about their financial future after attending Show Me the Money Day.
