WAYNE TOWNSHIP — A Dowagiac man was injured Monday in a single-vehicle Wayne Township crash, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 2:53 p.m. Monday, CCSO deputies were sent out to a single vehicle crash located near Flanders Street and Twin Lakes Road in Wayne Township. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the injured passenger, 63-year-old Dowagiac resident Teri Abiney. The driver had left the scene and his name is being withheld for further investigation.
The vehicle had turned east off of Twin Lakes Road and appeared to have lost control due to speed. Abiney fell from the vehicle before it struck a tree and was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for injuries sustained in the crash.
Assisting at the scene was VBEMS, Wayne Fire and Dowagiac Fire Department. Seatbelts were not worn and neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash.
