Roadrunners defend MCCAA Duals title

MUSKEGON — Back-to-back Michigan Community College Athletic Association Duals champions.
After returning to the mat for the first time in more than 30 years in 2023, the Southwestern Michigan College wrestling team has dominated the MCCAA. On Saturday, the Roadrunners went 5-0 to claim their second MCCAA Duals championship at Muskegon Community College.
Southwestern Michigan dominated the field as it defeated Marian College 60-6, St. Clair County Community College 53-6, Henry Ford College 49-3, Mott Community College 39-13 and the host Jayhawks 46-9.
Going undefeated on the day were Jordan Simpson (Dowagiac), Colby Klinger (Mattawan), Caeleb Ishmael (Coloma), Hunter Heath (Niles/Brandywine), Jared Checkley (Decatur), Hector Garcia (South Bend/Riley) and Shane Edwards (Battle Creek/Pennfield).
The Roadrunners will now be off until Jan. 28 when they try and defend their MCCAA championship in Port Huron at the MCCAA Individual Championships.
