Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

May 11, 1960-Nov. 28, 2023

Jeffrey B. Johnson, 63, of Cassopolis, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at his home. He was born on May 11, 1960, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of the late Bensen and Mary Jo (File) Johnson. On Oct. 8, 1983, he married the love of his life, Judith Lynn Behnke.
Jeff, known to most as JJ, was a proud husband, father, and papa. He was a driver for 40 years who worked long, honest hours to support his family. Jeff enjoyed rock hunting along the Michigan shores with Judy and was looking forward to doing so in his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go fishing, especially for walleye. He loved his Harley and spent many hours meticulously cleaning it in the back yard. Jeff was a fantastic dancer and overall life of the party; the best showpony. JJ was big in stature but soft-hearted and would give you the shirt off his back.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years — Judy Johnson; two children — Kyle (Johanna) Johnson and Valerie (Erik) Tapia; four grandchildren — Bensen and Hudsen Johnson and Vivian and Kole Tapia; sister – Bonnie Johnson; two brothers — Mike (Marti) Johnson and Dave Johnson; father-in-law — Ron Behnke; brothers-in-law John (Tina) Behnke and Jamey Behnke; several loving nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and many friends who were like family.
Preceding him in death were his parents and mother-in-law — Barbara Behnke.
Honoring Jeff’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held in Spring 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dowagiac Athletic Boosters. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clark Chapel and Cremation Services – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac. Those wishing to share a memory of Jeff online may do so at www.clarkch.com.
Thank you to all the people who found Jeff and stopped that day to help. He will be missed by many, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren.
