Schimpa scores 31 as Eddies rout Plainwell 62-40

EDWARDSBURG — A 31-point effort from Brody Schimpa led the Edwardsburg boys basketball team to its first win of the season Friday night.
The host Eddies exploded for 21 first-quarter points and went on to defeat Plainwell 62-40 in their Wolverine Conference opener.
Both teams are now 1-1 on the year.
After falling behind by 16 points in the first eight minutes of the contest, the Trojans rallied in the second quarter to cut the Edwardsburg lead to nine points, 32-23, by halftime.
It was all Eddies in the second half as they extended their lead to 43-32 by the end of the third quarter and then outscored Plainwell 19-8 in the fourth quarter.
Besides Schimpa, Edwardsburg also got 12 points from Matt Anders.
John Amaezechi and Drew Nelson scored 15 points each to lead the Trojans.
The Eddies now have a week off before traveling to Three Rivers to face the Wildcats in a Wolverine Conference contest. Three Rivers was defeated by Niles 63-45 Friday night.
