Norma Lee Lerner, 85 years old of Edwardsburg, passed peacefully to her rest, Nov. 26, 2023, surrounded by her family at Elkhart General Hospital after an illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1938 in Chicago, the daughter of Norman R. and Lucille (Johnson) Gauvreau and has lived in Edwardsburg most of her life. She was a graduate of Edwardsburg High School and of Indiana University with an Associate Degree. She also attended Valparaiso University.
She began her career with Miles Lab in Elkhart in Public Relations, then became the Editor of the Miles magazine known as the “Alkalizer”. She took time off from her public work to raise her three loving children. Then she re-entered the Newspaper Industry, being a “free-lance reporter” for the South Bend Tribune, The Elkhart Truth, The Edwardsburg Argus, The Kalamazoo Gazette and the Herald Palladium.
Norma was married August 20, 1960, in Elkhart to her loving husband, Ronald E. Lerner and he survives with their three beloved children, Connie (Larry) Davis of Niles, Paul (Marcia) Lerner of Niles and Elizabeth (Jon) Groulx of Edwardsburg. There are 7 loving grandchildren, Jonathan, Helen, Blake, Grant, Garrett, Taylor, and Kaylee, and one beloved great-grandchild, Amelia. Family who preceded Norma in passing are her parents, her sisters, Gladys Wallen, Lucille Bridenstine and her brother Norman Gauvreau.
Norma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Niles, a member of the Cass County Sheriff’s Mounted Division, a member of the Michigan Trail Riders Association, Inc., and her special group of friends known as “The Dessert Group.”
Family and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, from 3-6 p.m., at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street Edwardsburg. The Worship Service will be on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1340 Sycamore Street, Niles at 12 Noon, with a visitation from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon. Interment will be in Edwardsburg Cemetery, Edwardsburg.
