CASSOPOLIS — The Michigan Supreme Court reappointed Cass County Probate Court Judge Carol Montavon Bealor Wednesday, Nov. 15 to serve as the Chief Judge for the Cass County Courts.

Judge Bealor was initially appointed as the Chief Judge for the Cass County Courts in 2022 after she was appointed as the Cass County Probate Court Judge by Governor Whitmer to fill the partial term created by the retirement of Judge Susan L. Dobrich in November of 2021. Chief Judges are appointed by the Supreme Court for two-year terms. Judge Bealor’s term as Chief Judge will run through Dec. 31, 2025.

“It is an honor to be appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to continue to serve the Cass County Courts as Chief Judge,” Judge Bealor said upon notification of the re-appointment.

“I look forward to continuing to collaborate with Circuit Court Judge Mark Herman and District Court Judge Stacey Rentfrow to ensure that the Cass County Courts are efficiently and effectively providing access to justice and due process of law to the citizens of Cass County.” 

Chief Judges are tasked with exercising responsibilities outlined in the Michigan Court Rules including duties such as calling and presiding over meetings of the court, appointing court committees, initiating policies concerning the court’s internal operations, representing the court in its relations with other courts and organizations, and serving as the director of the administration of the court.
