Wolfgang Rudiger Kurt Gless, known most affectionately as Wolfie, was born in Burg ANF Fehmarn, Germany on the 21st of October, 1951, and later became a proud resident of Cass County, Michigan for over 50 years. Wolfie was a man of many layers, a blend of dedicated public servant, loving family man, talented hobbyist, and an inspiring figure to many.
Wolfie served his community with unwavering dedication, as a Corrections Sergeant in the Cass County Sheriff Department for 25 years and served as a volunteer firefighter for the Penn Township Fire Department, Cass County, MI for a staggering 50 years, and the Cassopolis Ambulance Service for 15 plus years. His courageous spirit and commitment to his roles earned him recognition and respect from his peers, and his retirement in 2015 marked the end of an era. But Wolfgang was more than his professions. He was also a member of the Heart City Wings Motorcycle Club in Elkhart, IN and the Highlands County Ridge Road Runners Motorcycle Club in Sebring, FL. He was a talented woodworker and builder, a man who found joy in creating, from vintage train sets to the many things he built and repaired around the house.
Wolfie’s love extended beyond his community to his family. Married to the love of his life, Connie Gless, since 1970, Wolfie was a devoted husband. He was also a loving father to Tina (Robbie) Lawson and Trenton (Stacy) Gless, and a doting grandfather to Jenna (Erik) Dudley ,Logan Lawson, Trenton Gless Jr., Tristin Gless, and Tinley Gless. The joy of his golden years were his great-grandchildren Jordyn Dudley, Lennox Lawson, and Eli Dudley. Wolfie was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Gerda Gless, and his beloved dog Bella.
Wolfgang Gless, our beloved Wolfie, is missed by all. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at 11 am Viewing followed by a Service 1 p.m., EST at Calvin Community Chapel, Cassopolis, MI.
