Vikings win New Buffalo tourney

NILES - The Niles varsity volleyball team traveled to New Buffalo on Saturday for the Lady Bison Invitational and came home with the championship trophy.
The Lady Vikes posted a perfect 5-0 record on the day, improving their record to 15-10-4 overall.
In pool play, Niles took wins over Grace Christian 21-16, 21-19, Michigan Lutheran 21-10, 21-14 and New Buffalo 21-16, 21-9.
In the semifinals, the Vikes met with Grace Christian, where they took the 21-10, 21-10 win and in the finals Niles defeated Michigan Lutheran for the win, 21-20, 21-13.
Karly Kennedy had 21 kills for the Vikings. Brittney Passig and Kylee Mudd each had 12, Kaylynn Stephenson had eight and Katie Bourbainnas had seven.
Passig led Niles in blocks with six, while Bourbainnas and Stephenson each had three.
Kennedy had 10 aces, while Passig added six.
Sam Brawley had 35 digs for the Vikes. Kennedy had 16 and Stephenson added 10.
Maddy Peterek had 54 assists.
Niles is back in action when they host River Valley for a non-conference match-up.
Freshmen and JV will begin at 6, with varsity starting around 7.
