Filing deadline approaching

The annual school elections for the area will be held on May 2. Candidates for the board of education for Niles Community Schools, Brandywine Community Schools and Buchanan Community Schools need to submit petitions by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
For the Niles Community Schools, the terms of Secretary Elaine Miller, and Treasurer Scott Tyler, are both expiring June 30 of this year. Both are seeking re-election.
Those two positions are both four year terms and candidates need to obtain a nomination petition and return it to the Niles City clerk, 508 E. Main St., Niles, no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Two positions are available on the Brandywine Community Schools board. The positions of James Curran, president and Trustee Rick Zache are open. Both are four year terms.
Nominating petitions are available in the Superintendent's Office, 1830 S. Third St., and the Niles Township Office, 320 Bell Road.
The deadline for returning petitions is Feb. 7, at 4 p.m., and should be returned to the Niles Township Office.
Two members of the school board are also up for election at this time on the Buchanan Board of Education. Those two, John Colip, President and Marlene Gauer, vice-president are both seeking re-election.
Anyone interested in running for one of these four-year positions must obtain a nomination petition from the Buchanan city clerk at city hall.
This petition must be signed by the required number of voters in the district and filed with the city clerk no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
