EDWARDSBURG - Friday night's match up between Brandywine and Edwardsburg could have been anyone's game.
But by the fourth quarter, the Eddies broke loose and took a 47-32 Lakeland Conference win, improving their record to 4-5 overall.
After the first period of play, the Bobcats had the 8-6 advantage, but that was the last lead they saw at the end of a quarter.
Edwardsburg had a 21-19 lead entering halftime, however, the real story of the first half came at the free throw line.
Brandywine went 2-for-7, while the Eddies made only one free throw out of 14 attempted.
The third period was very low scoring, as the Eddies had only eight points, all from senior guard David Daniels, who nailed two buckets and a three-pointer.
Brandywine added seven points to the scoreboard, with Caleb Frazier, Bill Bussey and Matt Beaver contributing baskets, bringing the score to 29-26 in favor of Edwardsburg.
Daniels opened the scoring in the fourth for Edwardsburg on a back-to-back buckets.
Beaver added a basket of his own, but Edwardsburg junior Adam Hancock added another two points to the Eddies' score, bringing it to 35-28.
Billy McDonald was next to score for Brandywine, going 2-for-2 at the line, however, Edwardsburg went on a 10-0 run in the final three minutes of the game, bringing the score to 45-38 with less than a minute to play.
Even when two of the Eddies' biggest players, Kevin Stack and Tony Hayes, both fouled out, the Bobcats struggled.
McDonald again went 2-for-2 at the line and Hancock made both of his free throws with just 41 seconds to play, posting the final score of the night.
After the game, Knapp had a long talk with his team in the locker room. He said he talked to his players about having character and pride.
Beaver was the top scorer for Brandywine with nine points on the night.
Bussey added seven and McDonald had six.
For Edwardsburg, Daniels had 21 points, Hancock had 12 and Hayes added 10.
Brandywine will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Berrien Springs for another conference match up. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
