NILES - Buchanan's Emily Ross and Niles' Ben Brandstatter have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Jan. 9-14.
Ross, a member of the Bucks' volleyball team, had two strong performances last week.
On Jan. 9 against Niles, Ross helped lead her team to a victory, ending the night with 30 assists, seven blocks and eight aces.
Against River Valley, she had 19 assists, four kills and four aces.
Brandstatter, a member of Niles' wrestling team, sealed the Vikes' victory against Lakeshore on Jan. 12 when he pinned Zach Kretchman in the 160-pound weight class. The pin gave Niles enough points to take the victory over the Lancers for the first time in years.
