NILES - Friday's rain may have kept the third graders at Howard/Ellis Elementary inside for afternoon recess, but it also gave members of the Community Grange of Sumnerville a chance to hand out brand new dictionaries to the students.
Each member of the third grade classes of Mrs. Altergott, Mrs. Whitmer, Mr. Perham and Mr. Marker received a dictionary.
Friday was the first time both Eckler and Conrad volunteered for the event that is in its fourth year.
The Community Grange works to support the economies, families and education systems in rural communities.
Some of the students appeared nervous when they turned to the very back of the book to find the definition and spelling of a word that took up an entire page. Some teachers kidded about sneaking it in the next spelling test.
