Eddies win own title

EDWARDSBURG -- Edwardsburg may have won the title, but the consolation game between Brandywine and Buchanan was of championship caliber.
The Bucks and Bobcats met in the consolation game of the Edwardsburg Invitational Saturday with Buchanan holding on for a 2-1 victory. Edwardsburg beat Bridgman 1-0 in the title game.
Rebecca Mondich scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute off an assist from Cassie Donath.
Edwardsburg beat Brandywine 6-1 in the first round while Buchanan suffered a 4-3 shootout loss to Bridgman.
In the Lady Eddies' win over Brandywine, Ashley Turner, Tayler Swaim, Mondich, Shelly Roberts and Megan Sweeney scored goals.
Turner had two goals and an assist.
Also dishing out assists were Katie Boyles, Sarah Lange, Jill Feil and Margaret Studer.
Natalie Barclay scored five goals on the day for Buchanan, which is now 2-10-4 overall. She scored three times against the Bees and both goals against Brandywine.
Brandywine's lone goal of the consolation game was scored by Bethany Daniel.
Brandywine is now 1-9 on the season.
