Viking freshmen fall in finals

NILES - The Niles freshmen basketball team dropped a 40-34 decision to Coloma Wednesday afternoon in the championship game of the Niles Holiday Classic.
The game stayed close throughout the entire fourth, with Coloma pulliung ahead in the final minutes of the game.
Zach Payne led Niles in scoring with 12 points, including three three-pointers.
Cody Floor added nine points for Niles, while Anthony Gladden had six points, all from three-pointers.
Chris Dew was the top scorer for Coloma with 12 points on the day.
Brandywine vs. LMC
In the consolation game, it was the Lake Michigan Catholic Lakers which took the 45-19 win over Brandywine Wednesday afternoon.
Brett Gilpin was the top scorer for the Bobcats with seven points.
Dan Reidenbach had five, Caleb Young added four and Zach Edquist had three.
For LMC, Ken Crowder led the team with 22 points, while Thomas Vision added 12.
Junior Varsity
Niles vs. Coloma
The Niles Vikings junior varsity basketball team was the only Niles team to walk away with a championship trophy Wednesday afternoon at its own Holiday Classic.
The Vikings took a 65-48 win over Coloma. Zach Bloss was the top scorer for the Vikings with 17 points, while Bradley Thomas added 16.
Joe Stonebreaker led the Comets with 13 points.
The JV team is now 4-2 on the season, suffering losses to Benton Harbor and South Bend Washington.
Brandywine's JV basketball team faced Lake Michigan Catholic in the consolation game Wednesday afternoon. No results were available at press time.
